Drumpf won.
The fractures and fissures in our nation’s foundation have been brought into the glaring daylight, no longer to be denied or ignorantly overlooked.
The skeletons we knew were there – some of us more than others – are out of the closets.
This is a moment of bringing the terrible shadows and the dark underbelly of this country into the light.
Of bringing the suffering and the subjugated on all sides into the light.
This is NOT a time to “hope.” This is not a time to “wait and see” or “give it a chance.”
No.
This is a time to act.
This is a time to be a fierce and proactive defender of what you know to be true.
This is NOT a time to perpetuate denial.
This is too big to be swept under the rug.
Use the light that is shining on our wounds. Harness it for progress and healing.
No, this is not a time for hope.
This is not a time for sutures and salves.
This is a time for practice, perseverance and civic engagement.
No, this is not a time for hope.
This is a time for eyes to be wide open to the pain, and to not look away even for a moment.
Do not put down the newspaper. Do not shut off the regular reporting.
Have faith, but do not hope.
Keep your head out of the sand.
Open your EARS.
Open your HEART.
Be engaged through action.
Do not be a bystander or a spectator.
Be a participant.
Be able to say, one day, “I was there and this is how I helped.”
Join a cause.
Be active, daily.
Do not tear down others who are engaged, simply for “how” they are doing it.
Do not ever forget what just happened.
And why.
Have faith, but do not hope.
What’s broken continues to rise to the surface.
No longer avoided by the discomfort of change.
Change happened.
Pick up the pieces.
Get on your feet.
Wield an ax.
Wield love.
Find glue.
Rebuild.
